River Arun - Arundel

This is the longest but one of the least strenuous of our kayaking river trips. This river trip works with the tide and with the strong flow that pushes up the river Arun we get plenty of help along the way.
As we set off in our canoe or kayak we leave Arundel and its castle behind. Being pushed inland by the tide we pass some wooden jetties and The Black Rabbit Pub before the river starts to wind through the stunning West Sussex countryside passing wooded areas, arable farmland and small villages. It's not long before we pass the Amberley Working Museum, this doubled as a quarry in the James Bond Film 'A View to a Kill'. The river Arun is teeming with wildlife and we regularly see heron, kingfisher and water vole to name just a few examples.

Who's it for?

Our Arundel kayak trip is based on the calm waters of West Sussex so it's open to everyone, although as we will be out on the water for most of the day it isn't recommended for under 16's. Whilst no previous kayaking experience is necessary you will need a sense of adventure and a reasonable level of fitness. This trip, like our River Medway trip and is all about what you want to do, relaxing or sprinting, there are no fixed points to stop or turn around; we go as quickly or as slowly as you choose, covering 2 or 22 miles. It's ideal for a group looking for a day out, with a different view of West Sussex.

What you'll need

All equipment required (except personal clothing) will be supplied by us. Bring along a wetsuit or warm layers to paddle in; fleece material and wool are best. We will be on the water for most of the day so something to drink and lunch will be needed. Sun cream if it's a hot day.

Our Arun kayak river trips run all year round. Each trip has a different start time depending on the tide. The length of each trip can be adjusted to suit the group's requirements but we aim to be on the water for approximately 7hrs.
Please Note: A minimum of three people are required to run this trip. If less than three people are booked on to the trip it will be cancelled with at least 48 hours notice. The one or two people booked onto the trip will receive a full refund.

What's nearby?

The historic town of Arundel is a wonderful place to visit, with an abundance of independent shops, antique shops, cafes, pubs, restaurants and other attractions to keep you busy.
The Black Rabbit Pub near where our trip begins and ends serves great food and lovely badger bitter; they even light the open fire on the colder days.
The Arundel Wetland Centre is one of the best Wetland centres in the country and is a great place to visit whether you're young or...not so young.
Arundel Castle is another great place to visit. Still being lived in; it's the residence of the Duke of Norfolk.
